Kuala Lumpur, 9 August 2017 – Asia’s most electrifying dance battle show - Asian Battleground (#AsianBTG2017) is back with a bang! Hosted by Astro, the street dance competition kicks off in style with a Dance Carnival showcasing some of the most exhilarating and jaw-dropping performances of Asian street dance at KL Gateway Mall.
After a series of audition, the #AsianBTG2017 Dance Carnival held recently brought together 16 talented local dance crews across the nation to strut their moves and swagger to the audience for some eye-opening show. International dance crews were invited to the dance floor, amongst them are the insanely energetic group, Desi Hoppers from India and the hype-infused Last Minute Crew from Indonesia.

The #AsianBTG2017 Dance Carnival saw dance crews wowing both the judges and spectators with their solid artistry, precision, athleticism and syphoning their way with throw downs in an open 3-on-3 battle!
Entering its 4th season, #AsianBTG2017 will bring a total of 18 dance crews from 12 countries coming together in Malaysia to battle it out in the ultimate challenge to be “Asia’s Best Dance Crew”. Besides battling for glory, the dancers from all over Asia – Malaysia, Thailand, Korea, China, Taiwan, the Philippines, Singapore, Indonesia, Japan, Vietnam, Hong Kong and India – will be exchanging colourful and unique Asian cultures through their dance showcases.
Swaying their way to the dance floor, Taiwanese professional hip-hop choreographer C. Hsiang, and the popping master of Korea, Firebac busted their moves at the Dance Carnival as both will return to the judging panel this year. Both judges set their expectations and shared their view on what sets apart a great dancer from the rest.

C. Hsiang said, “It takes years of practice to be the best dancer. Listening to different music also expands a dancer’s creative side as they will have more ideas to work with. Dancers need to consistently mold themselves to be an all-rounded dancer, blending new styles with the old-school dance foundation. I am looking forward to seeing what Malaysian street dancers will serve on their menu this time around”.
The Korean popping maestro Firebac said, “The street dance culture is growing positively in Malaysia, this country is purely magical and unique. I hope to see the dancers here strengthen their foundation further to create their very own style as their strength lies with their melting pot of cultures. Two things make up a great dancer – their precision and vision of the dance art form and the confidence in their craft.”
Joining C. Hsiang (Taiwan) and Firebac (Korea) on #AsianBTG2017’s judging panel are big names on the international dance scene, including Mari Koda, Japanese artiste and choreographer who starred in the Hollywood hit, Step Up; Locking duo from Japan, Hilty & Bosch a.k.a “Masters of Locking” and Coo Jerry from Korea; as well as Keone & Mari, the critically-acclaimed dancing couple from San Diego and Pacman from the US at the finals.
Local YouTuber and dancer, Dennis Yin will once again reprise his role as the host of Asian Battleground. Dennis said, “I am honored and glad to be able to host Asian Battleground for the fourth year. It gives me fond memories as I have taken part in the early seasons of the competition years ago. As a dancer, this gives me great insights of the dance scene in Malaysia and the rest of Asia. Asian Battleground is a great platform for upcoming talents to train and shine as it is filled with challenges which will test crews and individuals to their limit. With this, I hope to see the future generation of street dancers push boundaries, step out of the box to find their own identity and style.” Dennis will be joined by famous social media influencer, Jenn Chia at the finals in December.
